New tomorrow. To create a future fit for our grandchildren, we see ourselves as a catalyst for social change. The expertise and courage contributed by our team, board, and members are the guiding star of everything we do.
Who we are Vision | A sustainable society. We strive for an impact-oriented economy and a society that has its sights set on the day after tomorrow. Tyrol is becoming an international hotspot for social and ecological innovation—for a region worth living in, now and in the future. Mission | Implementing ideas together. We inspire, connect, and support people to develop and implement impact-oriented ideas. In doing so, we are creating a locally rooted, globally networked community for social and ecological innovation in Tyrol. Purpose | Accelerating change. We face numerous challenges in Tyrol and around the world. With the development of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the commitment of numerous individuals and organizations, positive global change has been initiated. Impact Hub Tyrol is the local catalyst for this social change. Theory of Change | Logic of our actions. We are striving to transform the economy from one driven by profit to one that is regenerative for people and the planet. By supporting and bringing together a critical mass of pioneers, they can serve as role models and inspire a broad movement for impact-oriented values in business and society. Values | The strong foundation of our actions. Take responsibility Create empowerment Create a community Authenticity living Promoting collaboration Demand and promote innovation Origins | Our history and our future Impact Hub Tirol emerged from the SETup organization. SETup stands for Social Entrepreneurship Tirol and was founded in January 2019 with the aim of promoting social entrepreneurship in Tirol. In order to further increase its impact, support more people, and bring expertise in social and ecological change to Tyrol, the team decided in fall 2020 to join the global Impact Hub network—to be able to better support all people in Tyrol who want to make a difference. Impact Hub Network - The Origin Story Where do the values of trust, courage, and collaboration that form the foundation of the Impact Hub network come from? How did it all start, and who is behind the global network of changemakers today? You can find out all this and more in the inspiring founding story of the Impact Hub Global Network. Zeitleiste Impact Hub 2000 - The seeds of change In 2000, a group of passionate and idealistic graduates from United World College (UWC) Atlantic in Wales organized a groundbreaking millennium event at London's Royal Festival Hall. They brought together influential figures, including Nobel Prize winners and even the Dalai Lama via video link, to discuss pressing global issues.. 2002 - In defiance of convention The impact of their event caught the attention of the United Nations World Summit and earned them a unique invitation to organize a side summit to the upcoming World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2003. However, the visionary young Impact Makers decided against the traditional workshop format and venue, instead creating a People's Summit in Soweto, where they collaborated with local activists who had transformed a neglected brownfield site into the inspiring Soweto Mountain of Hope (SoMoHo) to demonstrate the power of community-led change. 2005 - The first Impact Hub opens its doors In 2005, with the experiences of the Millennium Event and SoMoHo still fresh in their minds and hearts, the group recognized the growing need for a physical space where like-minded people could come together to network and collaborate. Inspired by their vision, they founded the first Impact Hub in a dilapidated London loft. Initially called "The Hub," the space became a breeding ground for community building, sustainable practices, and the perfect blend of activist passion and entrepreneurial ingenuity. The first habitat for social innovators was born. 2005-2011 - Cultivating collaborative growth As The Hub took root in London, like-minded individuals in other cities recognized that the model had the potential to meet the needs of their local communities. They began to collectively create a network of Impact Hubs that cultivates cross-cultural growth and contextualizes the model through the bottom-up participation of local impact makers as founder communities. As this network grew, each new hub reflected the unique needs and challenges of its local community while sharing a common vision for systemic change in the world. 2011-2018 - Make a global impact In 2011, an important milestone was reached: 15 Impact Hubs from around the world co-founded the Impact Hub Association. This enabled our network to expand its global presence and establish more than 100 Impact Hubs in over 60 countries. With the growing recognition of the "hub" concept, we changed our name from "The Hub" to "Impact Hub," underscoring our tireless commitment to promoting positive social and environmental change through entrepreneurial action. Laufend - Vision 2030 As our network moves into the future, our journey of transformation and impact remains boundless. Driven by our values of trust, courage, and collaboration, we strive to create more meaningful connections and drive innovative solutions that pave the way for a radically better world. By 2030, we want to be beacons for the economy of the future, harnessing diverse forces for good and collectively leading the impact economy to shape our present and future. More about the network Impact report 2022 From a hub for social entrepreneurship to a center for social and environmental innovation Impact Hub Tirol was founded in June 2021 by Jana Ganzmann, Alexander Auer, and Johannes Völlenklee and is being developed together with a diverse, multidisciplinary team of experienced entrepreneurs. The history of Impact Hub Tirol is closely linked to SETup, the contact point for social entrepreneurship in Tyrol. How it all began... Impact Hub Tirol emerged from the SETup organization. SETup stands for Social Entrepreneurship Tirol and was founded in January 2019 with the aim of promoting social entrepreneurship in Tirol. The founding team quickly found support: based in the Kulturbackstube bakery and together with internationally renowned impact investor Charly Kleissner, SETup built up Tyrol’s community for social entrepreneurship in the following years. Strategic development Originally organized as an association, SETup GmbH was additionally founded in February 2020 under the management of Jana Ganzmann and Alexander Auer in order to become economically sustainable. When, just a few weeks after its founding, the global pandemic seemed to thwart all plans, the management quickly switched the company to online offerings. Public interviews in the “Digital Lunch” format led to a wide reach and new partners. With new positive energy, SETup continued to develop strategically, expanded to include sustainability consulting, and the team grew. In fall 2020, SETup founded the first social startup incubator in Tyrol together with SOS Children’s Villages Austria: the Social Innovation Lab. This collaboration also brought together the future co-founders of Impact Hub Tirol, with Johannes Völlenklee joining the team as another expert in social innovation. The founding of Impact Hub Tirol In order to further increase its impact, support more people, and bring expertise in social and ecological change to Tyrol, the team decided in fall 2020 to join the global Impact Hub network—so that it could provide even better support to everyone in Tyrol who wants to make a difference. Of course, this step could not be taken without the necessary support. That is why two experienced individuals were brought into the founding team: Martina Burtscher, a branding expert and social entrepreneur, and Martin Hörtnagl, a sustainability consultant and coach. In 2021, after a successful application, the team finally became part of the world’s largest network for impact entrepreneurship, giving it access to the know-how and expertise of over 111 impact hubs and more than 17,000 members. After the community was launched in 2021, the hub also opened its own space in 2022, including coworking, offices, and meeting rooms. Since then, Impact Hub Tirol has teamed up with Werkstätte Wattens to establish Tyrol’s first impact accelerator for impact-oriented startups in the growth phase, hosted the AM PULS Tirol Forum for social innovation, organized the first Alpine Impact Day, and supported existing companies and organizations with a focus on social innovation and sustainability. With over 120 members, 450 square meters of space, and numerous partner organizations, Impact Hub has become the central hub for impact-oriented business in the region. And the next milestones are just around the corner. The location Impact Hub Tirol is located at Dreiheiligenstraße 21a, together with the Kulturbackstube bakery. This is where creative and entrepreneurial potential unfolds—at work or in front of the coffee machine. Come and visit us at the Hub at Dreiheiligenstraße 21a in Innsbruck.
